The School on the Hill
This is Kincheloe Elementary School, located on Gage Street in Wayne Township. This is our school and we are very proud of it. In 1965, the Dowagiac School District purchased a 20-acre parcel for $4,500. Construction was completed in 1969 for a cost of $645,401. The enrollment for the 2007-08 school year was 203. Because of redistricting and boundary changes after the 2007-08 school year, Kincheloe will become a K-5 elementary school in 2008-09.
Kincheloe Elementary School was named after Captain Iven Kincheloe who grew up on a farm not far from our the school. Captain Kincheloe was a test pilot in the Air Force and had dreams to travel to the moon or other planets.
