Our Adult & Alternative Programs

The Purpose of our programs:

  • Provide a non-traditional educational program to meet the unique needs of our students

  • Increase the number of students who successfully complete their high school diplomas or GED Certificate

  • Expect students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior
Promote the development of respect and tolerance of others

  • Provide an educational environment and activities that teach and reward responsible behavior and promote the building of positive self-esteem

  • Assist students in developing personal skills that will help them to overcome everyday life problems

  • Provide knowledge and experience to function successfully in the world of work

  • Help students identify and access needed public/social services

To help students reach their desired goals of completing their education, we offer the following:

High School Completion (Diploma)

Students aged 16 and above can work toward completing a high school diploma. Students may receive credit for prior credits earned in high school, work experience, and military experience. Course work is done in our lab with our online curriculum (NovaNET).

Also included in the Alternative Education High School Completion curriculum is a course called C.A.R.E. (Community, Awareness, Resources, & Education). The purpose of this course is to help our students move beyond the core curriculum (English, mathematics, science, social studies). Students need to explore the community in terms of such things as resources, culture, employment, and entertainment. Students also need to attend to themselves and perhaps to others regarding such issues as physical and mental health, family living, and positive community interactions.

General Education Development (GED) Preparation and Testing

This program is designed to allow students an opportunity to prepare to pass the High School Equivalency Examination. The GED assesses five areas—reading, writing, math, science, and    social studies. Students must meet State of Michigan requirements for  taking the GED. Pathfinders Adult Education is a State of Michigan GED Test Center.

GED Testing and Preparation is offered in both English and Spanish. During September and October, Spanish instruction is held at Sister Lakes Elementary School.
