Greetings DUS parents and guardians.  We have received a few questions over the past week, and here are the responses.  A vital element of the Governor’s executive orders is that students cannot be in buildings.

Q.  How can we gather the belongings of our students from the school buildings?

A.  We are working on our Distance Learning Plan and hope to have it ready by the middle of next week.  Access to students' belongings/materials in the buildings is being discussed.  We are developing processes and procedures to make this as easy and as safe as possible.  We will share information about the collection of items as soon as possible.

Q.  How and when will Kindergarten round-up happen this year?

A.  We have started developing the plan for the next Chieftain Kindergarten round-up, which will be the class of 2033.  However, the Governor’s executive order makes it a little tricky since students cannot be in the buildings for the different assessments the district has used in the past to help with this process.  Our goal is to have a plan ready in the next few weeks.

Q. Can students have work permits signed during the closing?

A.  Work permits can be signed at the Central Office, which is located on the second floor of the City Hall.  Please make an appointment by contacting us at 269-782-4400, between the hours of 9 AM to 3 PM starting next Monday, April 13th.

If you have other questions you may call or email your building principal or Central Office.

We thank you for your patience, understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Whan

Superintendent
