To assist you in avoiding getting caught between our buses when exiting, we have designated an area for parents to make use of which can be viewed in the provided image. Please note our recommended traffic flow diagram for this process. As always, we appreciate your patience and cooperation. Thank you for your support. Dr. Wightman

“Each Friday choir students in Mr. Schuur’s class get a chance to perform in Open Mic. Students sign up to sing, dance, act, read poems, and tell jokes to their classmates. It’s a great way for everyone to hear and see their friend’s talents! Here are some pictures of performers from 5th hour choir! Way to go!”
Mrs. Solloway's class reviewed cells and cellular processes with digital escape rooms. Students raced the clock by answering questions correctly and figure out the code to escape successfully.
Hello DMS Chieftains, This message is for families who are dropping off their child in the morning. To help with this process, we are asking families who are arriving early to please park in our front parking lot until our doors open at 7:20 am. Also, if you are the front car in our drop off line, we ask that you please pull your vehicle up to the orange cone located on the sidewalk in our front circle. This will help us to move traffic more quickly and efficiently through the school’s driveway, as more families will be able to allow their child to exit their vehicles. Finally, please say your goodbyes early and have your child ready to exit your car (with all of their things) when you pull up to the front of the building. We thank you for your continued patience and support. By working together, we will make things run more smoothly. Dr. Wightman
Greetings DMS Chieftains, We would like to inform you we will have Math Tutoring available after school for all of our students on Wednesday's from 2:25-3:25. If you decide to have your child participate in this after school program, please be sure to pick up your son or daughter in the front of the building promptly at 3:25 pm. Thank you for your support! Dr. Wightman

Attention parents/guardians of all 6th grade girls!! Below is an update concerning the Little Chieftains girls youth basketball program from Coach Turner. Little Chieftains Youth Basketball Update I have had a lot of parents asking about the Little Chieftains Youth Basketball program that was started last year. This is usually the time of year when we start our registrations for the program. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 Pandemic has presented a number of challenges that make it infeasible to run the program this winter. It really breaks my heart that we are not going to be able to make the league work this year due to health and safety concerns, but that does not mean that it will not return next year. It will come back even stronger! This Youth League allows us to build our Dowagiac Girls Basketball program and provides the youth of our city the chance to build a love for basketball. In place of the Little Chieftains Youth Basketball League, we plan to hold extra basketball camps this summer. We usually have one week of camps in the summer for kids, but we will plan to have extra weeks this coming summer. Those dates and times will be coming out at a later date. This information will likely be released closer to the end of the school year, so please keep your eyes open for a letter coming home about these basketball camps. Also, go like the Dowagiac Girls Basketball facebook page. Throughout the winter we will upload some videos of drills you can do to improve your basketball skills. Thanks, Coach Turner

Greetings DMS Chieftain Families, We want to inform you that your child’s report card has been mailed home along with their results from this year’s Fall NWEA benchmark assessment. We also wanted to make you aware that a few families may see a “Semester” grade located on their child’s report card instead of the typical “1st Quarter” grade. This was a system error that impacted only a couple classes. We apologize for any confusion this might cause and are working to correct it. For those impacted, the grade indicated reflects the work completed through the 1st Card Marking. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers or myself if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support. Dr. Wightman

Hello DMS families, "Ooops! Your on camera!!" This is just a friendly reminder to be aware student Chromebooks have a very wide camera view. We are letting you know so you are aware sometimes things you think aren't on camera are really happening on camera. To assist with this, we ask our students to let those around you know they are in view (This will help avoid any awkward situations). We also want you to be aware our Chromebook microphones are very sensitive to noises around them and can sometimes pick up unintended conversations. So please be careful. From our hearts to yours...Thank you for a wonderful first week of distance learning at Dowagiac Middle School!
