We want to thank the community for your support of the efforts of the DUS staff providing learning packets and the "meet-up and eat-up" program. In these challenging times let's continue keeping a strong and healthy mindset, supporting our neighbors, and treasuring our families.

Due to the popularity of the learning packets, DUHS students, without internet and in need of a packet, are required to call the HS office at 782-4420 at least one hour before the planned pickup time. This will allow staff to prepare them, minimize wait time, and limit close contact with others. Please remember that all the materials are on the student's Google classroom accounts and available on line. Thank you.

March 16, 2020 Update from Dowagiac Union Schools We are still getting mixed messages from the state regarding if schools are required to move spring break. Due to the confusion, we have made the decision to declare that spring break will stay as our calendar shows. Therefore, DUS spring break will begin Friday, April 3 and last until Sunday, April 12. We are planning and hoping that students can return to school on Monday, April 13. If the Governor or Legislators were to mandate that schools must change spring break or face significant consequences, we will cross that bridge at that time. We wish you good health and safety in these uncertain times. #Chieftains United!!

On Saturday, February 29th, Coach Stanger and Sierra Carpenter traveled up to Lake Orion High School for the JV state power lifting. Sierra reflects on the experience: "All of the adrenaline started rushing through me as I stepped out of the car to walk in and weigh in. At that moment I remembered all of those awful days at basketball practice when my muscles wanted to give out from lifting before hand had finally paid off. As a freshman I took second place in state and knew I was going to have to push even harder this year to get first place. I am beyond thankful for Coach Stanger. He has always been there for me and always makes sure I am reaching my highest potential. At that moment of attempting the state record for squat, the feeling of everyone shouting and cheering me on was astonishing. When they announced my name for first place I felt so relieved and like I had finally accomplished everything." Sierra set 2 personal records for herself at the meet. She is the first girl to place first at a state power-lifting meet for Dowagiac.

Competition time! Last week, the culinary class made pies for the staff to taste and judge. Although it doesn't matter who wins, there is always a bunch of competition between the students. Students made the dough and filling then put it all together to make a variety of pies ranging from apple to pumpkin. They left the room smelling delicious and left the pies looking even better!
