National Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5-9, 2025. The Michigan Department of Education’s (MDE) Office of Educator Excellence wishes to celebrate teachers across Michigan for the entire month of May.
MDE invites parents to submit 15-30 second videos of their students recognizing and thanking a specific teacher for their impact. Cell phones easily capture the videos. Please follow the directions on the flyer. Videos and parental consent must be submitted via the Teacher Appreciation Video Project Google Form. Videos are currently being accepted until Friday, April 16, 2025.
Submitted videos may be posted on the Teacher Appreciation Month webpage and MDE’s YouTube channel. The Office of Educator Excellence’s Facebook (@MIeducator) and X (formerly Twitter) social media pages will be promoting the videos throughout the month of May.
If your child has great things to say about a teacher, use the instructions found on MDE’s website to submit a video today!
If you submit a video to MDE, please share it with Amber Todd, our Communications Director, at atodd@dowagiacschools.org. This will enable her to feature these videos on our website and Facebook pages.

February is Dental Health Awareness Month! We were fortunate to welcome the Van Buren/Cass District Health Department to our elementary buildings and middle school, where they applied dental sealants to students who have enrolled in this program. Due to inclement weather and road conditions, athletic games and practices have been canceled. The only practices that are approved are Varsity only. Please stay safe and warm!

Congratulations to our 6th Grade Spelling Bee team for taking 4th Place in the team competition. Owen Killarney finished 2nd place in the individual competition and Stella Leighton finished 5th . GREAT JOB DMS CHIEFTAINS!

Parent Teacher Conferences
The location for the 7th/8th grade girls' basketball game vs Upton at 4PM has been changed to Dowagiac Union High School due to maintenance work in the DMS gym. With that being said, wrestling practice for this evening has been canceled. Thank you for your understanding.
We are pleased to announce a Competition Cheerleading Youth Clinic for students in grades K-8, scheduled for next week from Wednesday-Friday. The registration fee is $30, and payment may be made via cash or check. Please ensure payment is submitted at the clinic on Wednesday, February 19th. Participants who register by February 16th will receive a t-shirt.
